The stupid part of this, as will no doubt be supported by centrist Dems, is the suggestion that carbon tax revenues be directed to paying down the debt i.e., in support of bankers, the military, and tax cuts for the 1%. It would not be possible to make a more moronic pitch to voters, it would be like Trudeau telling Brad Wall and Doug Ford that the carbon tax can only be used to support the Winnipeg Jets (because they're our finest and they wear a jet logo).
BC voters support the BC carbon tax mostly for one reason and it's not green so much as greed: we get rebate checkst in the mail and we like it. Conservatives know this and are quick to muddy the water with any convenient reason that puts resident taxpayers last in line.
