There is definitely support for the mine in town.  Key political, and business leaders in Port Alberni especially are in favour of it.  In fact I think Port Alberni is probably 60% in favour.  However in the Comox Valley where the mine is I think there is significant opposition and there is great potential for major protests if the politicians don't start jiving with the will of the constituents.  And even in Port Alberni, everyone is concerned about the trucking.  If the mine does not commit to some sort of alternative that diverts the trucks away from the city then you will see a backlash from people currently in support.
