RE: RE: Petition on Raven using the Railway

RE: RE: Petition on Raven using the Railway

Turbo:

(You meant to type 1 TRUCK every 20 minutes).

However, you are wrong that it is hardly any increase in traffic. You have to consider:
a) the existing truck traffic

b) the geometry and circumstance on the road.

The MoT in its most recent study confirms this estimates current truck traffic at 300 trucks a day. They estimate 40-60 more trucks a day from Raven. That's a 13%-20% increase in traffic overnight. Far from a small difference.

If you drive the road you would know that
a) long backups behind trucks as they slowly climb, or descend the mountain pass are common place.

b) accidents and complete road blockages for minutes or hours involving both trucks and cars are common, especially in winter.

c) it is a major tourist road in summer with double the passenger traffic including lots of RVs headed out to the West Coast. This is why the West Coast/Tofino/Ucluelet Chamber of Commerce has expressed huge concerns and many members have come out in full opposition to the plans especially if it did not go by rail.

d) Cathedral Grove is a major draw and also becomes a major hazard along the route.

These are just some of the reasons why I created the petition to have the mine go by and the website with as much information as I can and all science/fact based. And it does not take a position on the mine itself. It is about the inferior transportation option that has been advocated to this point.
