RE: RE: RE: RE: Petition on Raven using the Railwa
It's the railway, or no way? I don't think this is a particularly reasonable stance to take Chris.
Wat should the stance be then 2guys? "Please Mr. Tapics if it is not too much trouble please use the railway so that us poor working folk don't have to pay more taxes to fund your trucks ripping up our city streets and clogging our highway."
"In the response letter to you, Mr. Tapics said that they were consulting with the owners of the railway and the Island Corridor Foundation for feasible use of the rail. Remember, a transportation route has to be economically feasible, it cannot be demanded of if it isn't."
the railway is feasible. Both Tapics and the Railway company has said that their transport costs would be cheaper if they went by rail. The difference is that the railway is in a state of disrepair and needs funding by both government (it is publicly owned) and industry (Raven, and the rail operator) and political support in order to be used.
I am of the opinion that if Tapics said he would like to use the railway and his company willing to put in some money (as he has been willing to say for a new highway) then it could happen.
"FWIW, Quinsam Coal uses trucks to move its coal from the mine to the barges."
There is no railway near Quinsam. Raven has one on its doorstep and it terminates 50 feet from where the truck unload is slated to be at the port.
Tapics has said in the past that if there was public support for the railway, Raven would pursue it. After my petition, and many other pronouncements of support to use the railway from business and political leaders... Tapics never reiterated that commitment and the dAIR included only trucks as a consideration.
what Tapics has done by reacting how he has is guaranteed that he will have even more people lining up against the trucks if and when they start to roll.
