not only are there no transparent and enforceable environmental laws to make coal mines accountable for the environmental damage to air and water, but there are no serious training programs that would provide Britsh Columbians with jobs. Let's not forget the economy which when robust for coal was the raison d'etre for Raven and its purpose to provide jobs to locals...

The Murray River coalmine project southwest of Tumbler Ridge is attracting controversy for plans to import 200 Chinese workers to fill jobs. The companies backing the mines say there aren't enough Canadian workers with the skills and experience needed to work underground, but the United Steelworkers union disagrees.
