Council of Canadians motion on Raven Project The Council of Canadians passed the following resolution on the Raven Coal Mine Project at their national AGM in held in Nanaimo, BC this past weekend. Add this to the growing list of those opposed to the proposed mine.
Whereas the proposed Raven Underground Coal Mine Project near Fanny Bay, British Columbia would negatively impact the economically important Baynes Sound shellfish industry and put at risk 600 shellfish industry jobs; and
Whereas the proposed Raven Underground Coal Mine Project would adversely affect and put at risk local ground water tables, aquifers and watersheds that provide domestic water for local residents, and also flow into Baynes Sound; and
Whereas all of the aquifers and watersheds potentially impacted by the proposed Raven Underground Coal Mine Project have not been adequately mapped and modeled despite requests from all local governments within the Comox Valley region:
Therefore be it resolved that the Council of Canadians oppose the development of the Raven Underground Coal Mine Project; and
Be it further resolved that the Council of Canadians add its name to other groups petitioning the provincial and federal governments to reject Compliance Energy Corporations’ request for approval to develop the Raven Underground Coal Mine Project.
