RE: RE: And the Opposition Builds

RE: RE: And the Opposition Builds

Here is the letter advising Mr. Tapics that the review has been delayed for 6 days and the deadline for evaluating it is now May 10.

i hear this is not the first letter that will be coming relating to this pause.

And 2guys you are right on one level... The EA process is straight forward.  If it is not done correctly it can not be completed successfully.  If all concerns raised by all stakeholders cannot be addressed, then it can not be completed successfully.

But where you are wrong is this is not simply about the functioning of the mine.  This is also about First Nations rights and title and their acceptance of the activity on and through their territory.  This is also about global effects that are not specifically covered by the EAO but cannot be ignored and are not ignored by many many stakeholders.

If this was not a coal mine,  if this was a gold mine, or other metal mine it would all be very different, heck maybe even I would support it.  There are plenty of other mines that aren't coal mines on Vancouver Island.  This is about coal.  This is about a 21st century way of development.

You might want to check this out on Monday.  I hope it might inform your opinion on these sorts of stock plays.

Energy vs. Environment: Do we have to choose?

*This event is sold out*

Pipelines, refinery construction projects and natural gas “fracking” are hot topics in BC at the moment. Western Canada enjoys an abundance of energy resources, but it has become impossible to discuss these reserves without getting caught up in politics. The risks of extracting and transporting these resources are great, but the potential rewards are too. Can we put a price on possible contaminated water tables and oil spills? Are the jobs and tax revenues worth the cost? Is there a way to get the best of both worlds?
