"i would expect an announcement by next monday, thats what im thinking now."   Actually turbo an announcement can come at any time, now or end of month, but I'm not going to second guess or try timing exactly when it will come out.  Fact is, it will come out when it does.  CEC hasn't changed course.   If the filings aren't ready they won't be submitted ...more

can give a reasonable argument to delay the process The key word is "reasonable"; since when is the community of "environmentalists" reasonable? All comes down to politics regardless of the merits and science; but I think the politics is on the side of developing the project. I am an ecologist (not self proclaimed; actually a PhD and well employed). Is amazing to me how the ...more

Yes adit123, I don't see any of them living without electricity or driving horse drawn caridges either, lol.   I do think it is important that both the environmentists and industrialists reach a mutual compromise.  I think that in the end they will, and that patience here will be rewarded.   Have a great weekend.

Hi adit - just ten miles from here there is an island in the St. Lawrence River that has forty or so windmills on it. Another island is slated for thirty-five. Both of these islands are on migratory bird flight paths, and the kill rate is enormous, including the bats that consume insects. As you can imagine, these "wind farms" are eyesores that have cluttered what used to be a pristine ...more

Environmentalist and Industrialist do not need to be mutually exclusive terms. And as an ecologist with a PhD you should understand fully precisely why any person, environmentalist radical or not, might oppose this project.  There are myriad reasons to do not the least of which being the grand-daddy of them all, climate change.  Yes, it's a drop in the proverbial bucket... but every ...more

Yes chrisale, this should ultimately come down to a political decision, after all the EA and permit will be issued by the government both Provincial and Federal if all goes well.   Be it the Clark government or the NDP if they come into power in BC, they will have to make a decision if CEC can mine Raven responsibly within Environmental regulations, or whether the cons outweigh the pros ...more

All good points except that the steel argument falls flat on its face with opponents when they look at the May 2011 feasibility or the dAIR and see that  a) there goal is to produce 80% coking and 20% thermal middling coal.... So no, it's not all steel for cars. b) if market conditions demand it, they will produce 100% high grade thermal coax c) they are building the plant to be able to ...more

Good arguments chrisale, and I agree Raven will not produce 100% coking coal, but the majority of it will.   In comparison to Quinsam which I believe is 100% thermal coal production and has been approved for further mining additional resources just recently, we can argue the effect of the end-product, just like oil/gas, the oil sands, mining for REE's etc, but what can we say, even clean ...more
