Incredible

An incredible result no one predicted.

It means there is going to be one hell of a fight against this coal mine.  Sad... The planet lost big today.  Clearly a majority in BC just don't get it yet.  I fear the day they do.

chrisale, the planet didn't lose just because the Liberals won in BC.  In fact even if the NDP had won would not have mattered one bit, IMO.   You see, there is a process in place and by the looks of things it is working, even though there could be improvements made on the monitoring of mines once up and running.   If the process wasn't working, then there would be no delay ...more

Chrisale you are wrong IMHO on all counts!   How can there NOW be one hell of a fight against the coal mine___I thought THAT is what has already been going on for the past year that you have been ranting on this board?   The planet didn't lose big__the UVic Noble winner climate change Dr. Weaver won the first Green Party seat   And you are ignoring the fact that the Island went ...more

Hey, maybe I'm a believer in the system, as I'm not a real believer in politics as that's never a true, but grey arena.  Just can't believe any politician, but you can believe in a system that's been in place for a long time and even though not perfect, it seems to work.   No, I don't believe the election victory for the Liberals will change anything for Raven ...more

I have made no derogatory comments.   The Raven mine is simply no longer an appropriate way to employ people.  Andrew Weaver is great and all but he isn't going to stop our rising CO2 emissions single handedlh Stopping this mine will absolutely contribute.  That is what it is all about.  If this mine gets through the EA phase, which, given what I have heard from First ...more

You mean the same system in BC that has NEVER rejected a mine?  Ever?
Comment by orrzee on May 17, 2013 12:47am
Now THAT was funny.  "No longer an appropriate way to employ people".  Who do you think you are pal....GOD !!  Get over yourself fella, you and your peeps aren't going to decide who works and who doesn't.  You need to deal with the fact that you don't control  growth and enterprise in this province.  Your opinions are just that and you know what ...more

Coal mining, especially useless semi soft stuff like Raven is going to become like Asbestos mining.  How many Asbestos mines left in Canada?  It's not because all the asbestos is gone either. Coal will no longer be acceptable to burn, thus, not to mine either.  Period.  There are a million different ways to employ people including hundreds of different mines, so don't ...more

HUH ?  Let me get this straight you are are okay with "hundreds of different mines" just not coal and asbestos ?  The asbestos thing is just plain weird but okay I will go with that.  I will say I am against asbestos, as I am.  My dad has asbestosis in his lungs (not from mining).  So am I right in saying if this was a lead/zinc mine or (one of those hundreds of ...more

lol.  Come back after you've gutted, frozen, stacked, dipped, and stacked again 1000 fish in a 14 hour day in pouring rain and rolling seas on a 10ft deck.  Then maybe you can talk, otherwise you haven't a glue what you are talking about. Anyway, As for the mining, I'm sorry to hear about your dad.  But coal is the same principle, simply applied globally.  I don' ...more

Not so fast Chris!__Helping your friends a few times out on their boat doesn't make you either a fisherman nor worker__Your real status fits my profile much better than what you are trying to portray. And that must have been one heck of a boat you helped out on with an onboard freezer compartment  in addition to the usual wet fish hold__but only a 10 foot deck to work on__and right out in ...more

chrisale, I'm sure everyone here understand the risks, and having the EA Application rejected now or even 6 months from now after the Open Comments period and everything is done.   It's not in our hands nor has it ever been.  The process works, that's why applications have been rejected and accepted.    Just let the process/system move forward, as I believe it works ...more

You are wrong 2guys, the process is in our hands, or at least it is supposed to be.  That is why there is a public comment period.  I will be taking full advantage of that period to point out the flaws in Ravens application, as will local government and First Nation and dozens of other people.  But above all what the BCEAO and CEAA really need to hear is that they must take climate ...more

lol. Oh my... Who knew talking fishing would make you are thrash about like a humpy in the checkers. But at least you got the last part right. My true agenda is to make sure not one coal truck ever comes through Port Alberni or any other island community south of Courtenay. Ether by making sure the coal goes by rail, or by making sure the coal just stays in the ground. That is why I created and ...more

I meant it's not in shareholders hands chrisale.  Sorry I didn't distinguish to two.   Of course there will be a public comments period, but that will only take into considerations the work done in the application, IMO.   I'm not sure if the EAO will take anything that is not into consideration as there has been more than ample time to bring up new, relevant issues in ...more

Ah I see no worries, I think you are correct that the EAO will not be taking new things into consideration.  That's not a big deal, I think the thousands of comments received in the per application phase covered every conceivable thing, including climate change.  It's just a matter of whether the company and EA offices actually choose to take those concerns seriously and deal ...more
