RE: RE: RE: check out BC Government site for conta no evidence of transparency or faith that CEC will spend the millions needed to protect the environment--that is if methane and carbon capture devices were feasible or efficient. Mining engineers point to failures of ALL mitigation measures due to human error, budget, lax enforcement of environmental restrictions, company "addiction to falsifying records" and nature. By permitting a company that is likely to declare bankruptcy since demand for coal is not expected to revive until post 2015 there is much to fear.
Rather, the CEC evidence as with the rail not truck issue is that budget is bottom line. All claims are part of a well rehearsed script used by other mine owners that continue to pollute watersources and air quality to get beyond the permit process. All websites are edited to sell the fantacy of sustainability, including removing from websites the Anderson holding that is located beneath a major resort/ski/residential area and which CEC has stated to investors will be developed.
CEC uses the same magic numbers--350 jobs, $100,000 average salary as other companies . Quinsam's 350 jobs has stabilized at 144 and locals compete for jobs paying around $25.00 an hour. Tumbler Ridge 350 jobs has stabilized at 200 w/ temporary Chinese workers being hired to fill additional jobs. Need more evidence of lack of transparency? CEC has communicated to American investors it is not responsible for claims made in its own reports of coal grade or is not responsible if it does not upgrade coal to metallurgical quality. Many have concluded that given the coal quality is similar to Quinsam that produces thermal coal, CEC's claim it will produce met coal for steel making is simply a pitch to attract investors.
