Solar

Solar energy is a nascent idea. So are electric cars. But to say that no progress has been made in these fields, would not be correct. Otherwise electric rickshaws won't be running in Delhi. They just ordered 500 electric buses as smog due to pollution brought the life in Delhi to almost standstill in first week of November.

These technologies have serious teething problems. Since it is avery small part of their business, it may be a good idea to keepit handy. It does provide diversity and some people are willing to pay for solar panels. Only issue is that common man can not afford it. I feel mangement knows their beans.

Sukhi, as much as I respect your opinions, SOLAR is a bust. Not only that, this isn't Delhi.  I haven't bothered to check but I sincerely doubt those Delhi busses are being recharged with solar panels. If they are, they are being done by a huge grid of such panels. The solar panels sold by our subsidiary are meant for roof tops. Not only that, they bought a controlling interest in ...more

How is solar a bust? Do you mean only for KWH, or for the entire world? Because even for KWH, it makes sense. There were 1.3 million homes in the US equipped with solar panels in 2016, up from 30,000 only 10 years earlier. By 2030, 50% of California's energy will come from renewable sources according to legislation. Solar employs more people in the US than oil and gas and 3x more than coal ...more

Solar is a bust for KWH.  For some reason, they went up against some very big players that are also involved in energy generation. The first injunction against subsidizing Solar came in Nebraska after a short court battle. It will snowball from there.  Like others have said before, Solar is a very small part of KWH but it is going to cost them like it's a large part. This is just ...more

That's fair, I wasn't sure if you were criticizing the transaction or criticizing the entire industry.

I'm not an expert on solar but was made aware of a solar farm project in the Soo. According to what I was told, a solar farm needs only 2,000 hours of sunlight annually. The Soo has 2,005 hours of sunlight.    "Sault Ste. Marie is home to Starwood Energy Group, which has established a 60-megawatt solar farms project, the second largest in North America. The sites ...more

How many of these is Solar invested in or building?????

Not sure what the business model is. What I was told is that the Soo economy benefitted from about $1B of total investment to date...they sure needed it. $500M to build it and $500m indirectly. And to qualify as a candidate location for a solar plant, the site has to meet all sorts of criteria in order to be profitable.
