Todays purchase gets the Divy

ex- Dividend is tomorrow so todays purchase is like geting an extra Divy, whereby if you hold for 6 months and a day,,, it's 42 cents as opposed to 36 cents which makes quite the difference at these levels... I've always preferred/enjoyed that advantage 16% higher dividend in this case over a 6 month hold
Comment by Valneigette on Mar 26, 2024 6:55pm
lol...if the stock go down $0.10 tomorrow better to be a buyer tomorrow and forget the $0.06 dividend that's depending of your feeling but you will not be right all the time...
Comment by w8asec on Mar 26, 2024 8:09pm
if you're day trading, then your play makes sense... I often find my divy stocks drop  more than the divy (if you can sell at the day high and buy back at the x-div low) I always get screwed over trying that... It's like the Pro's are watching me and looking for an opportunity to Fork me...lol

A lot of times in the past the stock falls more then the dividend.  If you timed it correctly you may have been able to make money off it but the window to do so was very narrow.  I'd rather not try to be fancy and buy and hold like how Warren Buffet does things.
Comment by w8asec on Mar 27, 2024 11:38am
Exactly, it's easy to look at each days intra-day high and low after the fact, but you'd have to "know" and time your buy and sell perfectly.... plus hope there was enough liquidity.

Nobody can do it consistantly and those that say they can are liars.
Comment by VeritasVern on Mar 27, 2024 12:23pm
Hey everyone, happy Ex dividend day! I am also happy to say that I have a 16% higher dividend due to buying CJ in past! Thanks w8asec for the incredible insight!

Comment by VeritasVern on Mar 28, 2024 10:14am
Dang! I guess I will have to waite until the end of month and one day before ex-div to get my 16% higer divy then!

All I can say intelligent investers don't sell their stocs down at the low unless they are small budget investor and need the money, wichever the case may be.  Loops is a lot ...more

Comment by lnggasfor202324 on Mar 31, 2024 3:45pm
Happy easter to you to.  Cj should do good the dividend is pretty much guaranteed at the current oil prices.  Cj isn't going to go up like a lot of the others because of the big dividend, but it is one of the safest because their debt to cashflow.  Cj is pretty much holding production flatish until the SAGD project gets going and I'm pretty sure we'll get a nice bump ...more
