Once the DD is done there is a certain amount of speculation no question but hopefully it's a well calculated risk. If management has been less than transparent or honest all the DD in the world isn't going to save you. So have to disagree with your #3 as a blanket statement.
Bre-X comes quickly to mind for example. Nortel. Enron.
My pick for #1 would be never invest more than you can afford to lose.
#2. Would definitely be "don't fall in love with a stock" I would include management in that too.
My #3 would be never, ever believe anything any IR person tells you.
