The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that CIBCWorld Markets analyst Ian Parkinson has done an extensive review of juniorcopper producers that trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange, combing through morethan 160 companies and more than 200 projects to determine which players aremost likely to draw the acquisitive eye of large mining companies and sovereignwealth funds in China, India, Brazil and other developing economies. The Globe'sSimon Avery writes in the Number Cruncher column that Mr. Parkinson says mergerand acquisition activity is set to jump in the space and investors who choosethe most attractive junior players will see substantial returns. He says, "Invery simplistic terms, we believe if you're long what China's short, you're in agood position." Duluth Metals stands at the top of Mr. Parkinson's list. Duluthis in the advanced stages of mineral exploration and has completed preliminaryeconomic assessments on a large underground site in northeastern Minnesota.Number two ranked PolyMet Mining is developing a copper-nickel-precious metalsproject in northeastern Minnesota and owns a crushing and milling facility andother infrastructure nearby.
