RE: RE: Quebec budget ... shale gas ...
RE: RE: Quebec budget ... shale gas ...Bencro and other GMR followers:
I find it very interesting that in the news release outlining aspects of the Quebec 2011-2012 budget that they are already factoring in the revenues and royalty regimes that will be implemented, not to mention the money saved by NOT purchasing gas from Alberta as well as the thousands of additional jobs that will be created.
So my question to those so adamantly opposed to the drilling in Quebec is this: With the government practically dreaming of all that revenue that will be created, how long do you think it will be before FULL SCALE drilling and fracking will take place? The government is saying all the right things by stating they are going to study this and that and blah, blah, blah. The reality is that they would not already have developed a four-tiered royalty scheme if they didn't already know (wink-wink) what the results of their findings are going to be. I'd bet anybody a nice lunch that after all the smoke clears the government is going to come to this surprising conclusion: Fracking is safe and it will happen in Quebec. The government will assure everyone that it will be safe because they will monitor the industry closely and hold every company responsible if they do not follow the "best-practice" methods and (again) blah, blah, blah.
The reality is this: No political party is going to turn their back on that kind of revenue and employment opportunities, especially if it in their own backyard. Politicians want to show how independant they are from everybody else.....you think Quebec would rather be dependant or independant of energy resources from Alberta. Think about it, at one time they didn't even want to be part of Canada. Once they don't need Alberta's energy anymore, it will resemble an older brother who comes to the realization that he can no longer pick on his younger brother. Quebec will love the independance and embrace the industry.
So......to all the environmentalists who thought they could stop this industry from booming....get lost. The stalling will be over soon and the government will not stand behind you publicly anymore. They will be standing behind the oil and gas companies and regard you as nuisances who will be dealt with accordingly if you interfere with the progress and process. Your days in the spotlight are numbered so enjoy each one while it lasts. When it is all over, you can go save the planet from something else......and just remember, as you are driving to your next rally to save the trees or promote windmills, you will be using (and burning) the oil and natural gas that you were so hell bent on trying to suppress.....the irony is delicious.
Just my humble opinion,
