Excellent news from Kirkland: high-grade drill intercepts in area where it hopes to define new resources that could extend the mine life of its Cosmo mine.
-
Given that Cosmo is the company’s highest-cost mine, anything that could change that would be a big benefit to the company overall.
-
The high-grade hits, including the highlighted 119 g/t over 4.5 meter may be well outside the pit, but they are still relatively close to current underground workings, so the new mineralization can be accessed and mined relatively easily.
-
Some of the other (lower-grade) intersections are even closer, showing potential to convert areas currently modeled as waste into ore.
-
This adds ounces just south of current underground operations without much increase to the all-important strip ratio (the more waste rock you have to strip away to get at the ore, the less money you make mining the ore).
- It’s still early days here, but these are very encouraging results.
-
They should help Kirkland’s geos zero in on higher-grade areas.
-
Best of all, this mine is not one of the company’s flagships, so the potential could add to the upside significantly, but it won’t hurt much if these discoveries don’t add up to much.
-
We look forward to results from the followup drilling over the next six months. -
