April 18 (Reuters) - Canadian gold miner Semafo Inc said the recent unrest in Burkina Faso in West Africa has not disrupted operations at its flagship gold mine, the Mana mine, in the area.
On Friday, Burkina Faso president Blaise Compaore sacked his government, army chief and head of presidential security after soldier took to the street demanding payment of promised bonuses, sparking riots.
Semafo's shares, which fell 12 percent on Friday, were trading up about 2.5 percent at C$7.65 Monday morning on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The Mana mine is Semafo's key mine and is expected to contribute about three-fourths of its total production for this year. Production at the mine rose 9 percent in the first quarter.
Besides the Mana Mine, Semafo also owns the Samira Hill Mine in Niger and the Kiniero Mine in Guinea. (Reporting by Amruta Sabnis in Bangalore; Editing by Jarshad Kakkrakandy)
