tendering from the US Update on the US tender situation: As I mentioned, I was luckily able to sell my shares Dec 6th. Ameritrade's official position, quoting DTCC, continues to be that US retail investors can't tender:
<< I am responding to your email to Ms. Koplow dated December 5, 2012. While we empathize with your frustration regarding this situation, we are unable to provide you with legal counsel. According to the DTCC, only non-U.S. investors or Qualified Institutional Buyers can participate in the High River Gold Mines tender offer. Should that change, we will be happy to take your instructions.

This raises questions. Eg, would DTCC have been able to handle the tender if the shares had been registered with them? How would Nord have gotten US shares *if* we have had wanted to give them up? And what form will the GDR shares take? One Ameritrade agent warned that they could be "restricted shares" with some very undesirable features, including illiquidity. Not clear whether this is just more incompetence, and where the core of the incompetence is. Not who clear, if anybody, stands to benefit from this bizarre twist in the process.
