RE wet blanket
RE wet blanketThere are many ways to skin a cat. In the case of 3D cameras it can be 2 cameras set apart at different angles, or 2 cameras bound together in parallel, or 2 cameras bound together at a slight angle, or 2 lenses with 1 body , or 1 lens with 2 bodies which is basically what Sony has done. All the above configurations are costly and require high precision and skilled assembly and are basically adaptation of old technology with a new twist. In all cases there is added bulk and some amount of processing that has to be done so that we are talking about a whole system rather than just a camera. That is not the case for the ICT camera which can produce 3D "on the fly" and can be manufactured in high volume which is why it can be integrated into existing product lines and therefore amenable to licensing by camera manufacturers.
