Well if trump loses the election, and the democrats unleash the green new deal then demand and hence price for metals will skyrocket depending on zero emission standards. Combined Chinese and USA demand would exacerbate the shortage as the US would be dependent on Africa , China and Russia for metals given the onerous environmental regulations needed to develop a mine within the US, leading to a massive shortage for the next 10-20 years.

Energy independence is achieved as a long term investments and goals in infrastructure which as of now has been horrible.
