He did say "guessing here only" after stating that.Seems to me that there has to be govt or corp. sponsorship of these thefts given the amounts,even if that means just turning a blind eye,for a small fee no doubt.Someone had calculated the mass of that amount of oil here before and it was immense.Not a couple guys with jerry cans and a garden hose.Part of me feels sorry for these guys and think it's ok if they get some.Maybe not this much but some.Hard to judge them harshly when I can't even imagine how desperate they must be to do that.Another part of me says,take the money that you are loosing and invest in some mercinaries to smoke these b......ds.Certainly that wouldn't do much for popularity with the native folks so I guess we better forget that one.Maybe a compromise is just give them money.I'm sure it would be cheaper.Better for them.Better for the copmpany and better for the environment.Maybe the complicated part is the govt guys would be po'd as they would be cut out of the loop.Pretty hard to hand them a payment in broad daylight without raising a few eyebrows.It's really a bizarre situation.Hopefully the underground pipeline would stop it but who knows.How hard is it to get a wet suit,or even a snorkel.May be even harder to see them do it.
