RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: paradigm buy rating
Firebug, 2 things.
1) Canadian gov't is the ficklest bunch of bleeding hearts. (I know, I work for the gov't in Canada They are usually a year or two behind the FDA in ok'ing drugs and medical devices. Still not even sure they have ok'd 3 tesla magnets yet (MRI). They are ultra conservative, sort of like, it's better to not buy into something and risk hurting someone and making us look bad, than to help move forward a promising technology or product.
Don't wait on the Canadian gov't. Too slow and careful. Besides, California has more people than all of Canada, so if you are concerned about Canada as a good market, it's not a huge market. Europe and USA, and parts of Asia.
From what I've read, Australia is quite interested too, but again, a small market unless you vaccinate the roooo's! Now there's a country with it's share of grief. There will be more and more interest in this technology as it gets further along in its study phase.
Now, with respect to the "hard to come by" part. Yes and no. Big and small pharma and biotech's alike all know that they have to get off of egg based vaccines. Many companies have tried and failed, and many companies are on there way. MDG is hellishly exciting in that they can fatten up the protein and purify it in a hurry using admittedly a very novel approach and with a significant imune response. (So far) But they are not alone. Aside from nvax, ibio... there are many others messing about with the many assorted methods of producing a viable egg replacement. Anything close to looking promising of course will be looked at closely by J&J, Sanofi or whoever. They seem to buy companies all the time. All this to say, MDG is hot, but not unique. Unique in there technology, but not in there goal.
Big pharma have a LOT of money tied up in egg factories so to speak, and they want to see there chickens come home to roost. So to speak. (Pun intended). All this before they have to write the factories off.
Now, off to recombine some DNA in the hot tub. Hopefully.
All longs, pray for a happy phase II report.
