COP unveils a 10 well program

Folks, check out the Sahtu L & W board site for breaking news:
What TK(traditional knowledge) was done before siting these wells?
TK was done for the current wells being drilled. For the proposed 10 well program, well locations are preliminary, and are based on LIDAR and subsurface
information. This is early information we are sharing today to let the communities know as early as possible what we are considering. TK will be done prior to final
site selection. We are just at the starting point, however pre-disturbance assessments were done to confirm that the locations did not pose a risk or impact to wetlands, waterbodies, natural drainages, and important wildlife
areas such as dens, raptor nests, etc. Locations can, and likely will be moved. We want to stress that this is early consultation, and more detailed consultation will
occur in upcoming months.

Folks, a tremendous good news story except for one small disappointment.   COP was originally planning to share an all-weather road with Shell using Bear Island (on EL469) as a jumping point across the MacKenzie River.   You'll notice that COP later withdraw that part of the application.  Our partner Shell continues to be a mystery to me.

If the results are there, obtaining financing for driling would not be the real hurdle for MGM.  I am inclined to think OilEng may be providing the basis of the real reason.

Hi Glacierman:  Once again thank you for bringing this to our attention. I reviewed the application and I am not sure that I agree with you about Bear Island.  They did not want to build an all weather road to Bear Island which is on Shell's land.  Rather they wanted to conduct geothechnical surveys to see if there is gravel there.  Since Shell doesn't own the gravel ...more

Oileng, I just love a mystery. I did a little research on Bear Island and it seems to a major hub for Imperial's Norman Wells field. Do you think that COP is looking down the road and thinking about a tie-in for future production? https://www.mvlwb.ca/Boards/slwb/Registry/2013/S13L1-007%20-%20Imperial%20Oil%20Resources%20Ltd/S13L1-007%20-%20Section%206%20-%20Norman%20Wells%20Operations%20 ...more
