Sunwing confirmed temporary halt to service for Regina.....
First it was Air Canada that announced that they were discontinuing service to Saskatoon and Regina. Today, Sunwing announced that they were suspending service to Saskatoon and Regina but, tentatively resume service at some point in February. This could provide an opening opportunity for Canada Jetlines to get their foot in the door, even if only temporarily, to provide air service to Saskatoon and Regina. As a side note, I am wondering if Air Canada's decision to end service to these two markets might be related to the Saskatchewan government's new 'Saskatchewan First' policy which came into affect within a couple of weeks prior to Air Canada's decision to end air operations to Saskatoon and Regina? If it does come to light that this decision by Air Canada was, indeed, the reason why they ended service in the Provice of Saskatchewan, what will it mean for air service in Alberta with it's new legislation related to 'Alberta First'? I can see Air Canada maintaining it's air service to Calgary but, will they decide to end service to Edmonton and site 'the streamlining of air operations across Canada' as the reason for the discontinuation of service to Edmonton? If they do take such a decision to do just that, in a strong economic market as Alberta, they would be commiting airline suicide as well as a public relations embarassment for the company. Sunwing, as I stated at the beginnin of my post, stated that they were only suspending air service to Saskatoon and Regina, temporarily but, will temporarily turn into perminantly and will the, too, site a similar reason as Air Canada has, for ending service to the Saskachewan market? Only time will tell. We shall see in February. If they do cease flights in these 2 markets then that could spell a golden opportunity, as I stated, for CJET or it's parent, JET, to come in and take up a share of those markets.
