I have a hard time seeing how RIL can lose the law suite, they were awarded the block fullfilled their obligations as per the contract and only drilled and harvested gas on their block. How can RIL or any operator be responsible where the gas comes from miles below the surface of the earth and does the contract contain a clause addressing that situation, I doubt it and if they were to lose why would anybody want to invest billions to operate in India when they could end up in a situation like this and India needs majors like RIL to develop the gas industry. But you're dealing with a corrupt third world country where anything can happen. Pay offs, bribes and influence are standard business practice in India.
