The use of lithium for lithium batteries is merely a stop gap
design to keep us going until solid state batteries are 
unleashed.

By 2030, we can expect the mothballing of lithium for the
purpose of energy storage in mobile vehicles

Lithium will continue to be used for other applications.

Even without the magical solid state batteries there is an 
abundant of lithium;  enough for 100 years or more.

Lithium batteries are quirky, they go on fire, they do badly in
cold climates, they do badly in hot climates, they hold too little 
charge, they take too long to charge.

The intro of the solid state battery holds the promise of 
taking us to the next level.
