you can drive the price down by putting in  lots of small sell orders at just below the last trading price, and small sell orders will typically get a lower price since they are odd lots of shares.  When the price is driven down to your target price you start to buy in much  larger quantities  (than you sold), hoping that does not drive the price back up to what you sold at.

If you are lucky, all your "selling" could have scared some  people into selling their shares before the price drops further, so you can buy  lots at the cheaper price.

As I understand it, that is the logic.
