China SolarChina to establish 13 solarpower projects in western regionJul.8, 2010 (China Knowledge) - China, the second-largest energy consumerin the world, plans to establish 13 solar power projects in its westernregion, as part of the government's efforts to cut carbon dioxideemissions and boost energy development in the region, the China Dailyreported.
The government is now inviting bids to develop theprojects in six provinces. The projects will have a combined capacity of280 megawatts, the National Development and Reform Commission, said in astatement on its website.
This is the second offer since thecountry opened bids to build a 10-megawatt solar power plant in Dunhuangin Northwest China's Gansu Province last year. China hopes its westernunderdeveloped region gradually come to be a base for energy productionand natural resources processing. It also aims to reduce fossil fuelconsumption to cut pollution.
Also, China plans to have aninstalled capacity of 20 gigawatts of solar power and 100 gigawatts ofwind power by 2020, Zhang Guobao, head of the National EnergyAdministration, said in May.
