I'm confused...... also new to trading.

I understand that we will get 33 shares for every 1000 of HIP shares.  I keep reading that HIP holders are going to loose big time if they hang on.  Now if we get 33 shares for every 1000 is that on top of our HIP shares or will that replace our HIP shares.   If it replaces it or is on top of it, what does it matter what HIP shares are at if a merger happens|?   Thank for any clarification.
