RE: RE: RE: RE: More Asian Cooperation Announced What Diefenbaker and Trudeau could do over 35 years ago is very different than what Harper can do today .
Back then society in general was more compliant and willing to accept business development . The generation that fought WWII was still in power . There was no Greenpeace , no Sierra Club ,etc . In respect to the natives they now have defacto veto rights . The original judical decision was that natives were to have consultation in any development on any lands they were claiming , but it has turned into much more than that .
With respect to the royalty rate , windfall taxes and fracking moratorium , the province owns the resource period . The federal government cannot set royalty rates . My point is that if a potential NDP provincial government choses to tax energy companies into submission it can . Evne the conservatives in Alberta tried that one , and they were supposed to be energy friendly .
I haven't made any statements regarding the province stopping Pacific Trails or Gateway from being built . I'm in favour of both these projects . But I think that the Gateway just has too much opposition . The Pacific Trails appears to be dead in the water for now , not for lack of government approval however .
