RE: They Got Em in Canada Too Anytime you read an article by so and so from this or that foundation you know theres a whacky agenda behind it .
After a little research I beleive he is talking about the Curtis Island LNG plant . It is using coal gas as its source so I think all his CO2 emissions numbers are way off . But he's just another ivory tower guy who doesn't get it or doesn't want to because it interferes with his employer , hence his paycheck .
For intstance take the Kitimat LNG plant . It is proposed for 5 million tonnes per year nat gas . All that gas will be burnt somewhere and the CO2 produced will get evenly distributed about the world . Supposedly it will use 200 MW power . If natural gas were used as a fuel it would take about 180,000 tonnes per year to run the power plant . Thats assuming a 60 % cycle efficiency . So the power requirement is about 3.6 % of the project capacity . If he's concerned about CO2 emissions he should be concerned that theres a project at all , rather than harping on the CO2 produced by supplying power . But his agenda is to undermine Cristy Clark so he spews all this CO2 emissions in BC baffelgab .
What people should be really aware of is that these projects are going to get torpedoed by the NDP government in waiting . Increased royalties , windfall taxes and a fracking moratorium are coming . So no final decisions until well after the next election . You can't have bargaining power when your projects half built and the contractors on site with all the equipment on order .
As for the race with Australia to serve the spot market , they won . Canadian LNG will be sold under longterm contracts to dedicated customers .
