Cold weather could warm up energy stocks

Cold weather could warm up energy stocks"However, this situation could be resolved a lot sooner than many expect with the rapid build-out of LNG export capacity in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Energy has to date received applications for 31 LNG permits totalling 33.8 bcf/d of export capacity, as cited in a recent report by the Congressional Research Service. To put this in perspective, U.S. dry natural gas production is approximately 67 bcf/d, of which only 4.4 bcf/d is currently exported.

Why the rush to build out this export capacity? Well, U.S. gas prices are currently US$3.60/mmBTU compared to prices above US$17 in parts of Asia and US$10.50 in Europe."
