Middle of nowhere? No infrastructure? Chidliak is 120km from Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. Iqaluit currently has the largest paved northern runway in the world and is frequently used for high arctic testing of new planes. There is also a brand new International Airport currently under construction and scheduled to be up and running by 2017. Regardless of who wins the election there is now a firm financial commitment to build a deep-sea port for Iqaluit. The town itself is the most highly developed in all of Nunavut. Home to over 10,000 (if you include transient workers) it boasts: 4 Hotels, movie theater, 9 restaurants, 2 food trucks, 4bars/lounges, heavy equipment rental shops, 2 building supply stores, 3 grocery stores, an aquatic center, fitness club with full racquetball courts, 2 ice hockey rinks, and unlike any other community in Nunavut housing is 80% privately owned rather than 80% government funded public housing. Meaning there is a VERY active work force. Iqaluit IS all the infrastructure of Nunavut and has the most progressive and business oriented people in the territory.
