RE:Liquid but solid gold ...DrSilberg,
Impresive indeed.
- I can see the quartz crystal, but...
why it was described as "
Liquid Solid" specimen...was it because before it turned solid it was in a molten state?
Ia it a drill hole that is located in the top left corner of the specimen? If so, what was the size of the Jumbo drill bit
...about 1 inch?
- Do you have the dimension (and weight) of this piece? With some dimension of the piece we could have a rough (very rough) estimate of the gold content, just for curiosity, since this pretty piece could just be sold for its value under the eyes of the rich collectors, not because of the gold content.
Assumptions:
Size: 12in x 12 in x 1 (or 2 in) thick? assuming the quartz crystal is about 1 inch across.
30cm x 30cm x 2.54cm (1 inch thick) x 50% (Au content by weight) x19.3/31 = 711 oz Au, say 700 oz (or around
C$ 1.2M in gold content value.
Let's use it (plus some small premium like 10%) as a starting price for an eBay auction. Why not have some kind of on-line auction for some of the "cheap" specimens just to test out the reaction of potential bidders?
Sotheby auction would be more suitable for the larger pieces, but keep in mind that they are charging 12% commission for expensive items.
Any comments on my eye-balling guestimate?
