RE:Rudolph vs Mohammed Ali
RE:Rudolph vs Mohammed AliYeah you're getting into chemical thermodynamics there, Gibb's Free Energy, with the kerogen cracking. Of course, Rudolph Clausius set up the theotetical foundation to begin with. I'm saying this because I'm arrogant and want to show off. Lmao! Nope. I'm saying it because Yallup and Scotchman say in their study that kerogen cracking into hydrocarbons happens between 60 to 120 Celcius temperatures. The higher the temperature the more likely it is that you'll cook up natural gas liquids than oil. Important because nat gas liquids are lower viscosity, flow easier with more flowrate for a given pressure difference. Gibb's comes into play because less internal energy of kerogen is lost as heat which means that it is stored as chemical energy in the nat gas liquids. And also those nat gas liquids would dilute oil making it's viscosity lower making it easier for it to flow. So the cooking temp that you refer to is critical. How the above affects the migration or mass transport mechanisms is beyond me. I'm not an earth scientist but it would seem to me that lower viscosity fluid would have filled up any traps by now so it's hard for me to imagine not finding hydrocarbons.
