South African mines valued at zeroI am probably going to start building a position here next week. Whole company is valued at less than the $2.2 bn they paid for Sillwater Mining in Montana, meaning at current stock price South African and Zimbabwe mines are free. Large political risk in South Africa with potential of genocide of white people, change in mining laws, and bat crazy politicialn like Malema however if gold and particularly platinum prices move up before South Africa blows up then Sibanye will have huge profits and stock will see lots of upside to be scalped. Sibanye has premier platinum assets in South Africa and mgmt has a smart strategy of acquisition when platinum prices are low decimating pgm mining outfits and making acquisitions cheap. Lonmin acquisition for stock is excellent move. Lonmin was a $20 stock not too many years ago...only.difference between now and then is platinum price is lower now. Before bankruptcy,Great Basin Gold plowed over $350mm into Burnstone mine, a modern gold mine designed for modern mechanized mining equipment. Burnstone will be a very low cost gold producer and produce 120,000 ozs gold per year soon and wil also be most modern gold mine in South Africa.
