The fundamental flaw with SIO and 3D Go...

The fundamental flaw with SIO and 3D Go......is their lack of understanding of the dynamics of the 3D at home market.
They state in their closing statements on the 3D Go site that it's the lack of quality content that was the issue with 3D at home.  That's an error.

The reality is that it was the lack of INTEREST.  Something I've been warning about for years.

For SIO to think they had a solution that the studios did not think about to save the home market denotes a high level of naivete, arrogance, or both.

As I've been saying for quite a long time, the industry saw after 2010 that people at home did not care one bit about 3D, and started shutting down all their 3D channels, cameras, displays...

The 3D folks have moved on to VR as the next shiny object, believing that the same people who complained for 7-8 years that they did not want to put 3D glasses on will now flock to an even bulkier and more invasive device... Sure.

The only 3D being done today outside of large screen 3D (maybe 4-5 films a year done by independents for IMAX-type theaters) is 2D to 3D conversion to bypass the china embargo on foreign film, and make a little bit of money domestically.  Even that is challenged, and now conversion is strictly an accounting decision.

SIO went all in with the 3D Go fiasco, and fired all their R&D (those who had not left already - see the reviews of ex-employees on glassdoor).  When that crashed, there was no one left in the house to go anywhere else, for example by creating a VR portal so they could capitalize on their 3D movie licences in the VR realm while it's still hot, or use their IP to create more efficient encoding in low cost cameras like GoPro.

To anyone who feels betrayed today, all I have to say is, why didn't you listen?  Me and a couple others have been giving the warnings for a long time...
