I wonder what they paid for this 40% owenership

I also wonder why they are getting involved in this new venture. Is this the best use for excess capital? This company is getting more and more complicated to evaluate.

Marsman1 My guess is they only paid a dollar for this new venture or may have got a bargain and paid just 50 cents.  Of course there is probably a lot of debt and trade payables which need paying and in that way Stelco can help the community, and keep this thing afloat. Further, if structured correctly there should be some good tax benefits for Stelco. You are right, I should have looked at ...more

Good post Thetis88. It would make sense to frame the deal as helping the Hamilton community as it is obvious they are having trouble with that land to sell . Zonning ?.  all that being said , it still comes down to the price of steel which continues to go down. As a fellow CA but not retired I do really like Stelco.  Buying Ticats is small investment.  Builds brand and goodwill.  Steel prices are still holding from what I can see.  Today Stelco down but all American steels are up.   I am holding and if we get another crazy down day will buy more.  Today I decided to buy more cineplex as government shutdown does seem to ...more

Some people are dying, yes, but with 16000 cases reported and likely double that infected if this was the killer flu then the parking lots of hospitals would be full of people ..dead and dying. what we have now is a flu and an hysterical government . pat what point do you suggest we get on with our lives , never?

Maybe I'm old school but seems like a waste of money. If I was a steel buyer (auto, construction, appliances) no amount of "goodwill" or "marketing" would overcome a lower price on the same product. Seems like Alan has too much of our cash and wants to go on a shopping spree instead of returning it. I've seen enough and my distrust of Alan grows each day. I exited my ...more
