UPDATE 1-Uranium One idles South African mine over strike

Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:43pm EDT

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Uranium One (UUU.TO: Quote,Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has suspended mining operations at its Dominion uranium project in South Africa because of what the Canadian company said on Friday was an illegal strike.

The company said unions were refusing to return to work despite a court order, and it would soon begin terminating the striking employees and "actively exploring all options available."

The underground mining operation about 150 km (95 miles) southwest of Johannesburg is in pre-commercial production, according to Uranium One's website.
