Short Position

Short PositionI am obviously new to the board.  But I have been watching for a long time.  About the rise of the short position and the end of the year that looms, does anyone have any views on weather the rise in the short position is a case of shorting "against the box" in order to defer taxes?  It seems that this is a viable explanation for the behavior and lack of squeezing behavior by the market.  Any ideas would be welcomed...
