Timeline for Potash Price Stabilization

Timeline for Potash Price StabilizationAccording to Bloomberg of 7/30

"Uralkali hadn’t planned to renew the China contract this year, hoping to sign a new agreement in October or November at a price no lower than the current level, according to a statement from Baumgertner on May 29."

There appears there is serious near term pressure on the Russians and the Ukranians to work out their differences and to stabilize the Potash prices.

China is the major market for both and price stability in that market is parpmount to both.

These guys may play big-stakes poker but they are not stupid.

Real significant probability this is a short lived crisis.

Regardless, it does put on notice all high-cost producers and high-cost-per-ton new-projects that there is substantial long-term and unpredictable vulnerability to significant sudden over-night price swings of an undertermined duration.  The hallmark of doing business in  a not-100% free/competitive market.
