A Calgary banker a few weeks ago: "I know you've been telling people you have 60 years of stay flat inventory and investors have loved how much stock you've been buying back, but one word, "Charlie Lake." Let's buy into an oil play that doesn't quite compete with what you're drilling now, dilute your gas weighting just as investors finally want natural gas exposure, add on a bunch of debt, and defer further meaningful buybacks by over a year. The market will love it. Are you with me?"
$AAV.TO just pulled something from this book earlier this week. That is why investors (rightfully) hate this sector. As soon as stock shows some signs of life, there is another "bought deal" incoming. With all kind of narratives, that never play out as promised.
