RE:Where's The Canadian Medical Marijuana Licences?....

RE:Where's The Canadian Medical Marijuana Licences?....In his article, “Where’s the Canadian Medical Marijuana Licenses?” James West opines in the Midas Report, that no more medical marijuana licenses will be issued until Health Canada’s appeal of the Allard decision comes before the courts next year. But except for the opinion of one consultant, he provides no other evidence as to why he feels that will be the case.
At the heart of the Allard appeal is the legal concept of “irreparable harm”. Meaning that those people, who are presently growing their own marijuana, would suffer terrible financial distress, if they had to buy from a licensed seller. Really? All 40,000 are so poor that they all would suffer “irreparable harm”? Impossible.
He then goes on to claim “The stated average price in most medical marijuana companies currently licensed to produce is $8 – 12 per gram.” Ok, for one example, look at Mettrum’s current offerings (www.mettrum.com/products/#available). Of the eight non-CBD strains currently available, four are being offered at a price of $7.60/gram and two are offered at $6.60/gram. Mettrum has a 30/30 program that offers a 30% discount to those who qualify (that would be the 40,000 people claiming “irreparable harm”). Bottom line, the cost on a per gram basis under Mettrum’s 30/30 program for these six is $4.62 and $5.32. A far cry from the $8-$12 Mr. West claims. Also, those claiming “irreparable harm” asserted that they would turn to the illicit market for their marijuana needs. If they think they can pay less than $135 or $156 (including GST) for an ounce of marijuana, I would love to meet their dealers. Furthermore, we are comparing quick dried, mold infested street chit versus the strict pharmacy grade marijuana that Health Canada demands.

Finally, Mr. West fails to point out that the new MMPR system is a federal law, and granting the right to grow your own marijuana to a small minority of people because of financial hardship, is discriminatory to all those who also suffer financial hardship, but cannot legally grow their own. Obviously, Mr. West is not a lawyer and so you would think that on a topic of such crucial legal importance, he would perhaps have consulted with at least one lawyer before he wrote this clearly biased and nonsensical opinion. But that would clearly get in the way of his hidden agenda. Read the appeal for yourself and you will see exactly how strong the government’s case really is.
