Question for short sellers

Question for short sellersQuestions for the short sellers as I am not getting a consistently straight answer from Scotia iTrade.

How long after you short a stock can you hang onto your position before having to buy-in?
What are your margin requirements in order to short a stock - ie. Margin cash double that of short value?
Can a broker truly "borrow" shares from any customer's account or only from a customer margin account?
