The ad to ad.un tax treatment ?

Has anyone gained any solid knowledge or docuementation of the treatment of ad to a trust ?

I realize that there is a deemed disposition at around $12.39 . I am wondering to get some further validation to help with closing portfolio matters as 2020 draws to an end . My financial institution has not helped me with this to date .
What has happened with you ?

 Thanks fellow shareholders !

Hi! What is your specific question? As far as my account is concerned there is nothing more to do until tax filing time in March/April. In my case, BMOIL entered the newly-issued AD.UN units with an ACB of $12.34 (different brokers use slightly different values I discovered). They will issue a T5008 in Feb./March showing the disposition of the AD shares at the $12.34 price. The T5008 form will ...more

We just noticed that RBCDI has entered 11.95 as book value for AD.UN in my son's account. That's fine with us; lower is better in his case. But I don't see how they get it to be under $12. Anyone else with RBCDI see the same BV? .

I know somebody who uses RBC and their statement shows $11.95 as new cost base, I use CIBC and my statement shows $12.27 as new cost base.  Seems to be a lot of confusion about the right number.  I have emailed Alaris to see if they have a correct number.  Will post that if they respond. The old AD stock closed at $11.93 the day prior to the change, according to my records.  ...more

I plan to use BMO's $12.34 ACB value since this will relate to the T5008 they issue and submit to the CRA. If you choose a different value than the one shown by your broker that could trigger an issue with CRA cuz your capital gain/loss claimed will differ from the value shown on the T5008. Better just to stick with the broker's value & make sure they use the same number for the ACB of ...more

I got a reply from Alaris about the price to use for the share conversion.  The IR person told me that Alaris does not have a "correct" number.  He said, and this is correct, that the you must be able to defend the number you use, in case of an audit.  He, personally, is using $12.27 per share, which is the last trading price for the old AD shares on Sept 3rd prior to ...more

Thanks for sharing! I will continue to use the $12.34 that BMO chose as the AD.UN ACB. Thus, my capital loss will match 100% the amount they list on the T5008 re the "liquidation" of the AD shares. Also, whenever a liquidation of AD.UN occurs in the future the ACB will be "correct" and consistent with my own - after adjusting for annual Return of Capital amounts, of course ...more
