Almonti Korea Tungsten Co., Ltd. (Sangdong Mining), a Korean subsidiary of Al Monty Industries, a global tungsten mine development and production company, signed an EPC (Responsible Construction) contract for POSCO E & C and Sangdong mine development on Dec. 28,
Mine redevelopment work has begun on Jan 2. Accordingly, the main facility for processing mined tungsten ore in Sangdong mine will be constructed. In accordance with the EPC construction contract, POSCO E & C will be responsible for the design, civil engineering, construction, mechanical and electrical equipment construction as well as test operation for the beneficiation plant and its affiliated facilities. The net amount of the EPC construction contract is 40.3 billion won (about US $ 37.3 million). If POSCO E & C covers the price of major equipment to be installed, it is worth about KRW 54 billion (about US $ 50 million).
The main facility of Sunkwang Plant is constructed with processing capacity of 900,000 ~ 1.2 million tons per year and aims at processing 640,000 tons per year in the initial year.
"Commercial production of Sangdong mine is expected to start in the second half of 2019 after stabilization of production," said Louis Black, president of Almont Industries.
