  • The only opportunity Canada's currency will ever approach or exceed par with US currency is when the world or North America is coming out of a major recession.
  • Canada is resource based economy and resources are one of the first things that is in demand when coming out of a recession.
  • The US economy is like a the big 705ci Chevy block engine and Canada is the two stroke weed whacker.  It takes time for large economies to get going, but when they do, Canada can't compete.  Canada doesn't have the investment, infrastruture, nor the population to compete with the US.  So you are safe to use an exchange rate of 20%-25% above the Canadian dollar.....and you won't be predicting the future.
  • One last comment, I think we will be lucky to see the Canadian dollar at par with the US one time over the next 40 years.
