RE:RE:RE:RE : other partners may start dropping like flies TOO !!I can't see why you wouldn't be able to buy flights on AC with aeroplan after 2020. They will just be the market fare rewards and not the cheap ones. Much the same way you can buy an air canada flight with air miles, which has nothing to do with air canada. Air miles is independant of any airlines and it's still doing fine. Not sure why people think this is the end of the world for Aimia.

Flew once from Zurich to Toronto on Aeroplan but it was on United (a Star Alliance partner) which stopped in Washington first I believe. Had to go through customs again. A real pain which caused me to miss my flight.
I never made that mistake again and fly only AC now to Europe. Lufthansa's ok but you will need to land first in their hub city, usually Frankfurt. Not so convenient if you're going anywhere except to Germany.
The real problem is domestically. Without AC, there's no direct way to go from point to point in Canada. Fly United and you have to go into the States then back up to Canada. No one is going to do that. Aimia needs AC or at least Air Transat. There's really not much choice.
Having said that I have cancelled my Visa Aeroplan Infinite card. I expect many others to do so to unless there's a domestic solution.
