Aeroplan can survive without AC. It can survive without an airline partner even... although that is probably not going to happen as they have the stake in AeroMexico to back them up.
In fac they are already doing it with their Market Fare, hotel redmeption, car rental, and merchandies offering. Loyalty One (airmiles) does not have a airline partner and they are doing well.
