The kind of investor I amI spent two years of my life making my living by being a swing trader which meant I tended to trade weekly which I found much more profitable than trying to do day trades. However for th elast multiple years I am what you might call a Hybrid Trader.
I seek out value stocks and buy in after my analysis and usually after some bad news in a stock. Once I am satisfied with the long term value I may buy a very significant position. Then I will hold that core position. But I will swing trade or even day trade a small portion of that position and as you know may write call options against a portion of the position.
I tend to trade very few companies but get to know them as inside out as I can. So I can be very pattient as with ALA but enjoy the swiung trade activity as well. When it comes to diversification there is always the old adage, If you put all your eggs in one basket.... then watch the basket! and watch carefully.
Although I wish ALA had a significant green component these days, I hav eno doubt that we will see higher prices ahead - so my core remains intact even while I fiddle around the edges trying to augment that return. During the slow recovery the option income has been a nice add on to income but as I commented a few weeks ago I took all my hedges of sahort options off as I could see the price poised to rise. As others also point out there is still considerable value in ALA Enjoy. GL
